What is a brother to do when designing a shirt………for sisters?

November 25, 2006 · 2 Comments

So…..what IS a brother to do when designing a shirt for sisters?

ASK THEM.

That’s one way to do it. That’s probably the best way to do it. Actually….that’s what we’re doing! MuslimTees.com, the first proactive instead of reactive Islamic Organization…ok may be not the first, but it has to be third or fourth. On a more serious note, if you’re a sister and  haven’t taken our survey please take it here: http://muslimtees.com/popup_longsleeve.htm

The goal of this post is to share some thoughts regarding our plans for “Sister oriented” products and solicit any other advice.

For our first sister line, we’ve been hearing that they should be long sleeved, featured in many colors, and have a feminine fit to them. I think we can get the first two requests dead-on but I do admit that we’re still a bit lost about the feminine fit part.

Basically what one of the sisters who took the survey lamented about other shirts, ” it is either long enough but tight or it is not long enough and SUPER baggy… when i say i like loose.. i mean not so it looks like I’m wearing a bag haha” or like another confided in use when she wrote “shirt itself needs to be kind of long, to come below the hips, but we don’t want to wear a tent, so if you could make sure that it’s not a total bag.”

I never knew about the bag thing. Never ever in a million years. SubhanAllah, sisters have a this unique vernacular. That…..or they’re actually wearing bags.

We are still having a little difficulty in defining what feminine means. Basically, what we’re looking for in a long sleeved shirt are the cuffs (we don’t want them to puff), overall fit, modesty factor, and fashion factor.

That may seem vague, but i guess that’s because it is vague. Right now we’re constantly soliciting opinions from sisters and we’re bringing a sister on board as an consultant.

We’re doing what we can….but we still need your opinion! Here’s all the things you can do to help us out:

  • Take the survey: http://muslimtees.com/popup_longsleeve.htm
  • Send us links of long sleeved shirts you like with a small note of what you like
  • contact us at any time to tell us what we’re doing right and what we’re doing wrong – we’re always learning

In the end, we won’t get it perfect but we’ll try to get it right. One thing we will try to promise is to make them affordable and as one sister put it “Don’t make them ugly =)”

Nice to meet you…

November 13, 2006 · 5 Comments

Assalaamu alaikum,

A lot of you might be thinking, ohhhhh great, another blog! Just more clutter on the internet…

This one is going to be a little different in that it is not only a blog but a diablog (like dialogue, get it? No? Whooo..tough crowd). Well….that’s our goal anyway. This blog will serve two purposes 1) to chronicle our adventures as Muslim businessmen and 2) to provide a direct and unadulterated means of communicating with us and others interested in topics revolving around Islamic business topics, Islamic entrepreneurism, and T-shirts!

This blog will try not to delve too much into social commentary, philosophy, or other such topics. We leave that for the experts. All we want to do is show a side of businessmen that may not be readily apparent. Our worries, dreams, and hardships that keep us up at night and the successes and failures that shape our business and personal lives. I think I may have used too many “ands” in that last sentence.

At this time there will be three main contributors, listed here by the expected amount of contributions.

  • AbdulAziz “Zezo” Al-Salim, CEO for MuslimTees.com. That’s me. I’ll be chit chatting with people the most. As for the title it is in effect a cosmetic position. All it means is that I have ultimate responsibility of the failure of MuslimTees.com. However, the success of it will come from a collective effort of MT (abbreviation for MuslimTees) staffers and you, the consumer. I look forward to getting to know you all and your stories.
  • Taqee Khaled, CMO (Chief Marketing Officer) for MuslimTees.com. Taq Master Flash. If you’re located in North America and know any of us it is probably Taqee. Taqee, through his charming nature, has developed an impressive amount of relationships among the American Muslim constituency. If you do any type of deal with us, Taqee will probably play a big role in it. An approachable intellect of sorts, Taqee will sprinkle this blog with humor, wit, and depth.
  • Rommy AhmedCTO (Chief Technology Officer) for MuslimTees.com. Like our website? Thank Rommy for that. Rommy creates all of our web forms and was the main architect of the website. As stylish as he is shy, you probably won’t hear from Rommy much but you’ll probably wear one of his designs if you buy from MuslimTees.com. Rommy values face-to-face conversations, I wouldn’t hold my breath for him to blog. If you have a question about something feel free to email him at rommy@muslimtees.com. A notable point about Rommy is that he’s never activated a facebook account….i know, subhanAllah.

Feel free to leave some love, anger, suggestions, questions, or comments on this blog because you own half of it. This was only the introduction. We have got a lot of catching up to do…

Salaam.Z.
